UTM ‘govt’ to institute newinquiry into SKC plane crash
UTM president Dalitso Kabambe says if voted into power, they will set up a new commission of inquiry to investigate late vice-president Saulos Chilima’s plane crash.
He said this on the sidelines of a memorial mass the Chilima family and Nsipe Catholic Parish organised yesterday in Ntcheu.

Said Kabambe: “Just like most Malawians, we are not satisfied with the plane crash inquiry report.Once we get into government next year, we will institute a competent commission of inquiry to investigate the plane crash which took the life of the UTM president and others. We need to get to the bottom of this.”
Kabambe also vowed that UTM will work to realise Chilima’s dream of transforming the country to give Malawians a better life.
“For Malawi to be transformed, first we have to root out corruption and implement the reforms which Chilima undertook to make the government more efficient,” said Kabambe.
The event started with a memorial mass service which Father Athanasius Manyenga presided over.
Later, guests and family members honoured Chilima by laying wreaths on the tomb of the late vice-president.
The first to lay the wreath was Madame Mary Chilima and her daughter Elizabeth.
Others who laid their wreaths were Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani, Kabambe, Newton Kambala, Nancy Mdooko and late Chilima’s brothers and family members
In his sermon, Manyenga said Malawians should take comfort from the teaching of Jesus in John 14:27.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
He said in this verse, Jesus offers peace that is unconditional and eternal, in contrast to the world’s peace, which can be superficial.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Chilima’s cousin Joshua Valera thanked those who came to honour the late Chilima, saying they feel comforted.
“From our hearts we say thank you so much for honouring Dr.Chilima. May God be with you,” he said.
Chilima was killed in a plane crash alongside eight other people on June 10 this year.
